Shopping

‘Little Britain’ as the Jervis Street Shopping Centre has been dubbed is home to Debenhams, Topshop, Mothercare, Argos, the Celtic Shop and other well-known stores.

Cross the Liffey either by the much-loved ‘Ha’penny Bridge’ or by the new, futuristic ‘Millennium Bridge’ to Temple Bar. In this area you will find contemporary clothes stores such as Urban Outfitters, Christopher, Cuan Hanly alongside quirky second-hand stores such as SeSi and Damascus. Craft shops, record stores and small botiques opened by people who couldn’t get what they wanted in Dublin. Check out ‘Roman Smith’ which was opened because the owner couldn’t find shoes to fit her!

Head towards Grafton Street up George’s Street, through the Arcade for a melange of urban cool and retro-chic clothes stores and a great organic food selection. Jenny Vander’s is worth a look for original 1920/30s gear. Barry Doyle Design Jewellers is located upstairs in the centre of the arcade. All are welcome to come upstairs to the unique studio where all the jewellery is made by Barry using white gold, silver and precious gemstones. Step forward in fashion at Urban on Drury Street. Then across Castle Market and through the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre. The centre between Clarendon Street and William Street South, has a piano player tinkling the ivories most days and the courtyard restaurant is a great place to relax and watch Dubliners.

Through to Grafton Street, past the Westbury Mall and you will find Brown Thomas and its sister store BT2. Brown Thomas is Dublin’s most exclusive department store and BT2 carries hip, young designer clothes. Shoe shops are prominent, with Carl Scarpa’s store worth a look, for its distinctive stock. Other shops include Laura Ashley, Next and Jigsaw. Off Grafton Street, there is a selection of excellent shops. At the bottom, near the famous ‘Molly Malone’ statue is ‘Avoca’ which sells clothes and blankets from the famous ‘Avoca Handweavers’, costumes for children, Irish crafts, jewellery, furniture and food.
